Bolingbroke Hospital consultation condemned

5.24.50pm BST (GMT +0100) Thu 5th Apr 2007

The Bolingbroke Hospital consultation is on a false prospectus, say local Lib Dems, because it is restricted the the services that are still carried out on the existing site.

"There has been no attempt to look at the overall needs of people in Battersea," says spokesman Matthew Green. "It may be a lot cheaper to expand the facilities at this site rather than building a brand new facility."

There have been no in-patient facilities in Battersea since the NHS stopped providing them at the Bolingbroke in 2005, citing concerns over fire safety. Many people feel that there is a need for a community hospital in Battersea to deliver types of service where large hospitals, like St George's in Tooting, are inefficient. "Putney has Queen Mary Hospital in Roehampton, but Battersea has nothing," says Matthew
