Wandsworth police stations uncontactable6.59.56pm BST (GMT +0100) Wed 11th Apr 2007 Research carried out by the Lib Dem GLA team found that there was no answer from four out of five Wandsworth Police Stations; only the Putney Section Office replied. This made it one of the worst boroughs in the exercise. Researchers used numbers for non-urgent calls, and were immediately put through to a call centre; they then asked to be put through to the station concerned. Throughout London only 65 out of 141 stations replied. For non-urgent calls all Wandsworth stations are served by a single call centre on 020 7350 1122. Commenting on the findings, Dee Doocey, said: "Four years on from our last survey, these results show the Met to be more distant and uncontactable. Londoners face silence at the end of the line for just under half the capital's police stations, a disgrace by any standards." This exercise was about contacting the local police station, not about reporting crime (which is dealt with by the call centre) or contacting neighbourhood teams (which have there own numbers). But that's hardly an excuse! Related Link:
