Over the 2020 summer, the council finally picked up on an idea local Liberal Democrats had been campaigning to try for years - Bedford Hill was pedestrianised. Local businesses were able to benefit from higher footfall, despite social distancing, and a very different type of Balham was revealed.
Now, Wandsworth Council have removed it, without any discussion with the wider local community. We think it's so important to listen to and include the community in decisions as to how our streets are managed, that we are collecting signatures on the petition below.
We, the undersigned, call on Wandsworth Council to have a conversation with the local community about the future of Bedford Hill, where options from full pedestrianisation (as trialled Summer 2020) to full motor traffic access can be discussed and subject to community consent implemented.
